After five short weeks of visiting family, friends and supporters in the states, I am happy to say that I have arrived safely back to Honduras. We arrived in Rio Viejo Sunday night, after a long day of traveling, and began working right away Monday morning.
We did our usual clinic day on Monday and Tuesday, with things running smoothly. All of our patients were excited to have us back. On Thursday and Friday, Dr. Martin, Rachel, Brandi and I traveled to Las Minas. Las Minas is the village where Dr. Martin did his service year for medical school and he has continued to serve there monthly for the past eight years. Traveling to Las Minas is always an adventure! We are greeted by the sweetest people and fed the most amazing food! Needless to say, you NEVER go hungry in Las Minas.
As we arrived on Thursday morning, we had people there awaiting our arrival. We set up clinic and immediately began our day. After clinic, we spent the afternoon relaxing by the river. Right before dusk, we headed back to the clinic to set up our hammocks before dark and then headed for a fantastic dinner of fried chicken, rice, and beans.
On Friday, people started arriving early, 5 a.m., to be seen by the doctor. Around 7, we packed up our things and set off for some breakfast. (fried chicken, beans, tortillas and cheese). After seeing all of our patients, we loaded up and started our journey back to Rio Viejo. About 30 minutes down the road, one of the ladies that we saw that day, stopped us and invited us in for some soup. Man oh man! That was the best soup I've ever eaten. It was a delicious bowl of cabbage, potatoes, pork, and plantains. :) If you were wondering, YES we LOVE to eat around here!
It's super cool to see how much people appreciate what we do. It brings them so much happiness to have us come eat in their homes. I love their kind and generous hearts!
Well, I'm gonna be headed off to church now. Stay tuned for more posts from the jungle!
